What you got was gazpacho andaluz--it is generally served in the way you 
describe, but it should have more flavor than you describe. My personal 
favorite is salmorejo, also from Andaluc?a, a cousin of gazpacho but 
thicker, more garlicky and served with chopped egg and ham.
