an interesting flap in the boston globe today about the photos commissioned
by the racist professor Agassiz at Harvard from JT Zealy in Columbia SC.

a swiss anti-racism group tried obtaining permission to show some of the
photos in their exhibition in grindelwald but received an email from
Harvard stating " its curators found ?some of the language in your
exhibition materials, although interesting, aggressive towards Agassiz, who
was a very influential figure at Harvard.?

so the swiss anti-racism folks are going ahead with silhouettes they have
created of the slave daguerrotypes "but also the relevant e-mail exchanges
with the employees of both Harvard museums ? which, even if they were sent
partly in error, give the exhibit an extra punch.

?Sometimes,? F?ssler said, ?the ?other side? just makes the best mistakes.?
i love it!
:-)

f?ssler is also involved in a petition to change the name of the mountain
named after the racist Harvard professor to the name of the slave in the
most famous of the photos, a man named Renty.
