It's really not so much the backside, as it is a major portion of the
country.  For example, I walked down Chestnut St. early this evening in
Philadelphia, and if I weren't going to a supper I could have snapped at
least a dozen pictures that fit nicely into my portfolio. Best was a
devout lady in a full body covering (save for an eye slit), holding a sign
for a store's Going Out of Business Sale.

This is early evening in the fourth or fifth largest city in America, in
the center of the business district.  No homeless folks pictures, just
people going about their business.

City, countryside, suburbs--with the exception of some very fancy sections
of town (where people are hyper-sensitive about their public image), what
I see is far more the norm than the exception.

To paraphrase Shaw, in Hell we can be exactly whatever we wish to be.
