By the time I walked out to the area, fueling was completed, and I got the story of the activity. The helicopter normally based here was found to have a chip in the tail rotor. It is well protected, so it wasn't clear how the damage occurred. While the new rotor was obtained, balanced, test-flown, etc., the crew used a replacement helicopter. Today, with the regular bird ready for service, things were returning to normal. My friend, Jimmy, had just completed fueling the normally-assigned helicopter when I arrived: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/OldNick/PA042790+edit.jpg.html The Flight Nurses were busy moving their gear back to their normal ride; one smiled to give me a people-picture: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/OldNick/PA042796+edit.jpg.html I was invited to take a look inside. These units are equipped to transport babies as well as adults: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/OldNick/PA042795+edit.jpg.html And finally, the borrowed helicopter is made spic and span for return to its normal assignment: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/OldNick/PA042791+edit.jpg.html Oly E-1 with Leica Elmarit-R 28mm.
