It would make the razors too costly if the manufacturers did this work post production. Could it be that something similar pertains in lens manufacture? So far my Nikon AF lenses have not had any focussing problems either. But if the Nikon lens was so far off that it could be seen easily I would indeed send it back. If I spend $2000 to $4000 for a Nikon lens, it had better be dead on just like I would expect a Leica lens. These lenses did not have this problem back in the film days, so why should we allow this just because we now use digital cameras? These companies tell us in their ads that they make the best lenses out there, and then deliver something less than the best. In my book that is not acceptable. At the very least that is false advertising. It is not that I do not appreciate this adjustment, but that I expect the lenses I buy to meet their specifications, and not have to be adjusted to make them focus correctly right out of the box. If a lens wore, or aged electrically over a long period of time, then this feature would be nice to make a small correction, but when new the lens should be focussing correctly, within its tolerances as given by the manufacturer, and not require an adjustment from the camera to make it meet its specification. jmho. Methinks you doth protest too much! I personally think the Leica bunch is much more credulous and much less critical of their company's and equipment shortcomings than the others, that is all.
