It seems to belong to the same coffee house rumor that says you should never connect your camera to a computer through a USB cable. I always pull out the USB cable, download to a computer file of my choice, and allow the computer to delete the images from the camera card. The card is never reformated after it goes in the camera initially. I have never had a card problem.
