No I don't think either of your reasons make the situation impossible!  I 
think it has more to do with such a huge jumble of colours and people! As 
in, it's a huge blur of colours without a strong point of focus allowing the 
eyes to look onto a singular subject or tightly focused element.

It's just one of those South American gatherings that almost overwhelm or 
ability to see a "single moment of a subject!"

You don't run into those too often without pulling a workable and very 
interesting photograph out of the overall scene! Rarely are you, the 
photographer, "sort of beat as you are in this case?" It almost calls for, 
"put it back in file as an overall view second class photo scene"

No offence intended with my comments as you usually beat this kind of 
situation and come out with a winner photo.

I think it's useful in showing how the markets are in an overall scene! But 
not as a singular photo moment. And I don't think you can pull a single 
moment scene out of it?

However, YOU? ;-) We never know dear lady! :-)
