John,

the meter problem is probably a bad or misadjusted meter. The shutter issue
is probably a compatibility issue with the DMR, and the early R8. Mine had
this same issue and was fixed by Leica NJ for free as a warranty adjustment,
even though neither were in warranty. Once they were calibrated together
everything worked just fine.

Subject: [Leica] R8 / DMR questions

I am trying out an early R8 (sn 2294***) and a DMR (sn 10029**) and having
some issues, I have read that some early R8s had issues with the DMR?

The exposure reading is way out, about 3 stops over, waiting for a test film
to come back. Tried it with various lenses both 3-cam and ROM.

Batteries seems to have decent charge but neither DMR release fires the
shutter and the shutter is not re-cocked - have to do the latter by hand.

Are these incompatibilities or is something broken? I have read that some
early R8s had to be sent back to Leica for something to be changed?

john
