[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]I haven't shared this story yet, but last August while I was in Weymouth, a resort town in Dorset, southern UK, I was accosted by the beach lifeguards with a threat to call the police on me if I didn't cease and desist taking "illegal" pictures of "children". Apparently, some child's mother told them I was taking pictures as I walked along the beach. Which I was, but their immediate assumption was that I was there for nefarious purposes. I held my tongue, since I was in a foreign country and really didn't want to spend time explaining myself to the police. I am most definitely an Anglophile, but this attitude in the UK is one that really needs societal adjustment. As a counterpoint, no one said a thing to me while photographing the Barcelona beaches, children included, even when some adults were semi-nude.
