Thanks.  If I get it, I will be looking into some alternative ink system, 
either refillables, or CIS.  Still deciding, but it does sound like quite a 
step up from my  R1800, especially for B&W prints.

I use the Epson R3000. The output is perfect. However althhough it has
now a cartridge for the matte black ink, it still needs to switch from
photo to matte and by doing that you loose some ink (1-2 ml).
To bring costs down I'm running it with Lyson Photochrome R30 inks in
combination with refillable cartridges.
