Thank you for commenting Tina and Nathan. It is rare that a totally off
topic post gets much attention unless it concerns Scotch or Tilly hats. Jack
Frost must be a LUG lurker. A few hours after my complaining post the
temperature dropped by 20 degrees and it began to snow. We now have another
half foot of snow and the conditions improved from terrible to mediocre.
Strangely enough my home in the Hudson Valley is expecting a blizzard which
should dump more snow than northern Vermont has seen all winter. Go figure.
Tina, I lived many years in Chicago too. Winters are brutal in the midwest
and taverns, rural or not, are a necessity. My son, who was a competitive
skier in college, now lives in Georgia. Once in a while he sees frost on the
ground.?

Tom and I cross-country ski. ?We don't get the chance in South Carolina
very often, but we have traveled to Switzerland many times to ski. ?We
learned when we lived in Chicago and had to take up skiing to get out of
the house. ?We could ski out of our back door across a forest preserve to a
rural tavern ;-)

Like your selfie!

On the LUG there are bikers, hikers, occasional sailors, leaf peepers,
gardeners, foodies, and bird watchers. But are they any other winter sports
enthusiasts? My wife and I are in the middle of our annual XC ski vacation
in Vermont. Unfortunately there is very little snow. These are the worst
midwinter ski conditions that I have ever experienced. The well publicized
Arctic vortex provided freezing temperatures in all the US states in North
America but the snow fell in narrow belts in the midwest and the Atlantic
coast. I have been a XC country skier since an army assignment in in 1955
at the polar bear capital of the world, Ft. Churchill, Canada. I have more
pairs of skis than I have Leica lenses. Here is a selfie taken with a P&S
camera while skiing today.

Are there any other winter sports enthusiasts, Alpine skiers, ski jumpers,
ice skaters, sledders, or snowball fighters on the LUG??
