While I quite understand "would rather the resources?"
simply - 'tis not our company.

And I'd guess that the "collectors would rather the resources?"

And in the end - both Users and Collectors
seem to feel satisfied enough with their respective products
that the factory keeps producing and selling to both markets.

I'd rather my country's resources "would rather?"
and I don't get that desire satisfied either.

The only resources that we have control over are our own.
We can choose to buy Leica products or not; new or used.
Beyond that it's out of our hands, wishes and/or cajoling.
