Bob, a show stopper if you think that any significant proportion of the
Monochrom cameras have experienced a sensor issue. The risk of a defect is
not zero of course. You could try to find any reported instances of this
anywhere on the web perhaps? Make your own judgement on the internet
discussions? Obviously there have been thousands of the M Monochrom
manufactured and something more than 30,000 M9's at least.

You could also read the official commitment and statement from Leica Camera
on their websites/blog etc. Better than rumour sites!
The RF is the same as for all M bodies from the M6 forward until the M (typ
240) of course.
That in the M (typ 240) is calibrated to higher standards now with newer
equipment too. I can't say if it is actually more robust. I never had an
issue there from the M6 forward.
I did manage to knock mine out of vertical displacement when I dropped it
from standing onto stone cobbles. I can hardly complain at that. It is a
tribute to how strong the new construction is though that the camera body
got no more than 2 pin prick size marks on the top plate (yes the corner
with the RF) on impact and bouncing after the hood on my lens was crushed

A replacement monochrom version with the new sensor has been speculated at
but I'm not aware of even a single rumour that this is going to happen.
Their product cycle tends to be around 3 years for digital body designs,
for whatever can be read into that!

My personal choice for BW in this format is developing from the DNG
originals from the M because I value its other improvements. For sure the
Monochrom is being used to make some superb quality BW images.

Cheers
