I agree with the others. The old lenses were "tuned" for B&W and probably for
Pan film at that, given when they were made. The issue is that you are using 
it
in colour and on a digital camera for which it wasn't designed.

That being said, I find it rather an interesting effect, rather like an early
Ektachrome. It could be worth keeping just for that effect!
