Philippe,

That bird looks like a Little Gull (Larus Minutus) in its winter plumage. 
Its head has a dark cap in the summer. There are hundreds - probably 
thousands - of them here on the east coast of Ireland. I'm not a big birder, 
but living on the coast as I always have, you do tend to notice birds.
