It has decent video specs, will (eventually) take S lenses and is thought to 
possibly maybe have an outside chance of being a forerunner to a camera to 
be used on a Sinar like view camera.....

Leica does not claim the SL as the M solution. Only that it can take M lens. 
For product sales, it makes a lot of sense to keep the lines separate
