Wilfred Thesiger ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilfred_Thesiger )  was a 
British explorer of Arabia who documented his travels with a Leica II. His

PS I have read several of his books and wondered how he managed to keep his 
camera in working condition and get his exposed films developed.
