Hi Tina,
My immediate re-action even though it appears IRAN & USA are now sort of
buddies??????????????
The more gear you take the more you are going to look like a CIA or other
SPY type and not the honest to goodness tourists you will be!
ERGO? Take the minimalist amount of gear to actually shoot the major amount
of tourist photos you wish and will be looking for. Yep I know the Iranian
folks are nice and friendly and all that and you and Tom are good looking
honest to goodness tourists.
SO ABSOLUTELY LOOK LIKE IT! PERIOD!
Gear?
So OK two camera bodies sounds and looks reasonable. 3? With 3 various
charging units is madness! Quite simply put yourself in the "security
persons position" looking at all the cables, lenses, camera bodies etc??
" YOU ARE GUILTY! YOU ARE SOME KIND OF SPY WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT! IRAN
ISN'T THE COUNTRY YOU AND TOM LIVED IN WAY BACK WHEN?

2 camera bodies USING same lenses. You already know what most of your
scenes will be and what the most common daily use lenses will be required.
Besides you are much older than the days way back when and the camera "BAGS
ARE HEAVIER WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!" :-( Sorry!

I'd play absolute hard ball on the equipment. Sometimes when we feel we're
short changing ourselves on the gear? Is just the time when you put a lens
to work due to your talent in such a fashion you come away with majestic
images due to your years of experience and natural talents that you never
thought possible. Believing it was never possible? UNTIL..... CLICK! "Holy
Cow look at that!" And you smile giving yourself a nice little pat on the
back! Don't over gear yourself! :-(

Go with the attitude this is going to be a wonderful adventure and it will
be if you stay cool...... "IT ISN'T An ASSIGNED TRIP" where you have a
client waiting for you to get home. Even so, if you did and you went with
one camera (((DON'T))) YOU HAVE SUCH BEAUTIFUL INATE TALENTS!" you'd still
blow the client away believing you were " super woman photog!" :-) We know
you are, but we'll never tell! :-)

And yes it's easy to sit here and cheer you on! But we're not the ones about
to fly into this unknown 2016 world of today! Our thoughts and prayers will
be with you and Tom every day until you are home.
The Great Spirit will be right handy all the time. "HE" told me when I
offered my prayers for a safe & successful trip and shoot!
cheers
Ted Grant OC

I totally agree;in my limited experience my most trustworthy M7 failed two
days into a 3 week trip to France, what happened was not pretty, but it was
very expensive.
