On page 159 of the German/English manual, it discusses FILE FORMAT.

FILE FORMAT The picture data is recorded either a. in the JPEG file 
format JPEG fine, or b. in the DNG file format, either compressed or 
uncompressed, or c. using combinations of one of the JPEG fine format 
and the set DNG format, i.e. two files are always generated per picture. 
On the one hand this allows you to take account of the intended usage 
and the available memory card capacity, and on the other hand provides 
the security and flexibility essential for deciding on the usage later. 
Setting the function Selecting the format / format combination 1. In the 
picture parameters menu (see p. 150/240) select File format, and 2. 
select the desired format format combination in the relevant sub-menu.
