I am one to use last years technology.... even though when I worked, I was
on the bleeding edge..... ( bought the M8 when the M9 was just announced,
still using the M9, never bought a M240 or later reincarnation, Bought a A7
when the A7II was announced, ditto the A7II)

I can wait on the A7rIII. Although the thought of 170MP is certainly
delicious.....

The Hasselblad camera backs ( I forget which) had this feature several years
ago, using a different implementation....
>From what I read, the mechanical parts that do the image stabilization in
>the Sony are used to "move" the sensor around for the 4 images.....

Bob is a big believer in RAW images ( me too, but given the chance to have
170MP, may change that preference.....) ( note that at 42.5MP, the camera
is no slouch.....)

PS: The A9 is just not a camera I have any interest in.....

I believe that the four-image sequence are standard RAW files that then are
processed by the special sauce in the Sony software. I?d really like to
see/hear about how that works and what it?s like to shoot.

A REALLY stable tripod would seem to be a must.

Isn?t this something that those technical cameras can do, Bob? I?ve read
about it - possibly from you. If so what was your experience using it?
