Isn't the literacy level in the US pretty poor for a first world country compared to others?? A higher proportion of people in America just can't read. That's probably why when you walk down the city streets of Europe - Dublin or Barcelona for instance - wearing a Leica around your neck, the more literate thieves in Europe recognise the writing, whip it off you, and scarper toute suite.
