Mike: The sentence above is probably the cause. You may have to ask a pretty pointed question with Leica USA to see why they are not servicing it locally. The second reason may be that certain lenses are only serviced at the factory because of their tight tolerances and complexity. The Tri-Elmar may be one of these lenses. There are a few lenses that are only serviced in Germany. As for the estimate, is it over a year old and out of warranty?
