it's a matter of utility function:
1. the twices:
the prius does get about twice the MPG as a vette
(real-world 40's vs my real-world 21 mpg),
seats twice as many
the prius takes at least twice as long to get to 60 MPH,
and infinitely longer to get to 160 MPH,
it has 65R tires versus 35Rs.
it might well have twice the trendiness
3. the middle ground:
the prius weighs 2900 versus 3200.
.75 G skidpad vs .95
59 mph slalom versus 70 mph
the prius is a 1/4 mi ET of 17 sec, compared with a 13.5 secs.
16 Cub Ft trunk vs 11 CF (convertible)/22 (coupe)
4. the halfs:
costs half as much.
carries 11.9 gal gas vs 20 gal
about half the perceived vulgarity--the vette being
the aspiration of "the working man"
5. the much less than half:
67 HP versus 345/400 HP
6. the unquantifiable:
it doesn't come in a convertible.
they got the wheels off a forklift.
it's slightly nicer looking than a gremlin, but not as nice as a vega.
the fact that some people like priuses is fine.
i'm just happier to live in a world where cars like
the prius are my only choice.
