Daniel,
For Nikon NEF files, I strongly suggest you use Nikon Capture as the Raw
converter. It is, and always has been, the best converter in terms of
quality. Most complaints come from workflow issues by pros who need to batch
convert in a hurry - school sports, etc. I have found it exceptional for my
unhurried amateur use.
