They did seem to be saying that they didn't wish to compete with Leica, but did. And in the long run they may have rejuvenated enough interest in rangefinders to ultimately benefit Leica. Like marijuana leading to "the hard stuff", they definitely gave a lot of people the rangefinder bug. I would have never ventured into the LUG had I not heard about it in one of Stephen Gandy's forums (RF or CVUG).
