In the mid-eighties, I had both lenses for about a year. I
subsequently sold the 40 M-Rokkor and kept the 40 Summicron.

     Here's why:

Using PKL 200 and PKL 64-

The M-Rokkor didn't have the same color saturation as the Summicron.
Though the lens was sharp, it just didn't have the same snap.

     Using Tri-X, and later TMX 100 & 400-

The M-Rokkor exhibited some pin-cushion distortion at 8X10 and this
was really evident at 11x14 and 16x20. The Summicron didn't exhibit
     pin-cushion distortion until 11x14.

The contrast of the M-Rokkor was fair as compared to the Summicron,
     which is excellent.

Good luck, I hope this helps. Good equipment, though I sold mine to
get rid of the battery and repair problems (that as in the L & L/m CL
bodies I used to have). Japan is even discontinuing production of the
     mercury cell.

     Take care

As the fates would recently have it, I was recently (in the last week) able to
pick up a "Leitz/Minolta" CL, with a Japanese made 40mm Rokkor lens...The price
was "real right"---so I could pass it up. In my Leica collection I presently
have a "Leica CL" complete with the 40mm Wetzler-made Summicron-C and a 90mm
Wetzler-made Elmar-C.

What kind of realistic comparison should I expect from color transpar. made
with the two different 40mm lenses.

I assume that the Minolta Rokkor is a "copy" of the Summicron, albeit licensed.

Any one here used both?

Cordially,
