That's an awful lot of trouble to go through for a camera which does not
allow for the most precise image control. Why not use the Leica instead, if
not an SLR or larger-format camera? A hefty tripod might look so much nicer
when accessorized with, oh, say a Wista DX 4x5 field camera or at least a
dinky little 6x6 SLR...

I think my 35mm tripod-to-go is going to be a Gitzo 026 with some nice,
compact ballhead (Foba? Linhof? Kaiser?) + Arca-Swiss type quick release. 
The Leica ballhead looks very nice, but darned if I know why they had to
make it so tall. I have a very nice tripod right now, but it's sized more
for my larger cameras, and darned if I want to carry this every day for
such a tiny camera as the Minox or even the Leica M.
