 I take a dampened toobruth, dampened in alcohol and scrub out the
engravings and then revil the engravings with a laquer stick of the right
color.  a local technician taught me this.  Go to a hardware or local mill
supply store and they will have the colored sticks.  Tool & die makers use
them all the time.  Hope this helps.
