Lucien what you say is interesting. I've just this minute finished a film
in the M6 so I have tried taking the base plate and grip off together, no
problem.

The camera I couldn't remove the base plate with grip attached was an M4.
My findings are as follows.

M6 base plate on M6      OK
M6 base plate on M4      OK
M4 base plate on M6      OK
M4 base plate on M4      Can't remove it with grip attached.

So I guess the answer is that there can be a slight tolerancing problem.
