I've worn contacts for 20 years or so, (most of that time the soft variety) and they've been an excellent solution for photography. Sadly, however, not long after crossing the 40-year divide, I found I was losing my ability to see close up with the contacts -- that film box, the lens and shutter settings, etc. Without them, or with glasses, I could see up close fine, but not with the contacts. My eye doc said it was normal and wear reading or magnifying glasses. But that never seemed like a workable solution for me -- contacts and glasses. So now I find I wear the contacts less and less, and wear my spectacles more and more, particularly for shooting. I can focus fine, but it's much tougher seeing the full 35mm or wider Leica viewfinder frames with the glasses than it was with the contacts. I'm going to try one more fitting of contacts, but I'm at the point of giving them up. I hope you fare better. By the way, Richard, thanks for the explainer on spectacle lens coatings. Now I know what to ask for when I go back for a new pair. Happy shooting, Bill Welch
