Hey I was pissed when they did it to me last year. But I have to understand
that they can't just let inventory to sit. They are a small company and
could go out of business with big losses. On the other hand, they ought to
understand that there are some people who will prefer the "older" lens
anyway. I think Nikon has made some bad decisions in the past few years,
and are today. 

There are legal implications to pre-announcing things. Microsoft has gotten
in trouble for doing it. And I think many businesses have taken up the
practice of not mentioning products before release for this reason. But I
think a better way to handle it is the way Canon has for a while. Just say
"We don't comment on future products." The problem with that is, the
Internet rumor mill gets things going. I know, I got caught up in the M6W
version, and for now, I'm believing Leica in saying it's not coming. Dang.
