So which one >lens would you recommend to start? > Seems to me that you've already narrowed down the choices nicely; me, I used the current 50 Summicron and 50 Elmar and chose the later, partly because it made a compact camera even more so. Much pleased with it. As the hood is a screw-on metal unit, changing filters is a little fussier than it should be, whereas, there is no such problem with the Summicron. On the other hand, the front element of the Elmar is better protected from behind said hood. I did own a Canadian 90/2.8 Tele-Elmarit, and regret selling it. I definitely did not use it as much as the 50, but use it, I did. Nice, compact optic, I had heard many good things about the recently discontinued 35 Summicron, so I'm probably going to seek out opinions as to whether the 35 Apo is as good as, or better than, the older optic in all respects, or whether it was a case of "better on some ways, not so nice in others".
