Subject: [Leica] black and white beginner questions

I just got a new M6 0.85 today and I have always admired the BW work
of the fine photographers on this list. I myself have never exposed a frame
of BW film in my life! Hard to believe, heh? Alas it is true. I have done
photography professionally for 2 years now, but I have only had use for
color transparencies.

I would love to hear some advice from some accomplished BW
photographers on how to start experimenting with BW with the M6.

What films would you recommend for a beginner to get the feeling of
BW photography? I won't be developing my own, just taking it to a
good BW lab in town. What are the most popular BW films, and what
are their characteristics? How is the BW slide film, Agfa Scala?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated......thanks!
