Subject: [Leica] DR Summicron on M6MH an update

Hi Luggers
I went along to Cameron Photo in Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong today and had a
play with an M6MH (serial #2423476) and my DR Summicron. Mr. Chin, the store
owner, managed to get the DR Summicron to mount in the close range by
turning the lens into the close range and then mounting it on the MH. The CU
spectacles could then be attached and the lens would focus in the close
range. The Technical Service Manager for Schmidt, the Leica agent in Hong
Kong, has told me that the lens can be modified to change to the close range
while on the camera for a cost of about US100 including parts and labor. We
are waiting for the parts from Solms to modify the lens but after today's
experience I am not sure that it needs to be modified. I also tried the
Elmarit 24 Asph and ended up buying the lens and finder because the lens
will fit and focus on my CLE which I had along with me (but the lens shade
protrudes into the CLE's range finder window a bit). Shot a roll of film as
I crossed back over to the Hong Kong side on the Star Ferry and riding over
to Aberdeen and am looking forward to the results tomorrow. By the way, the
fit and finish of both the Elmarit and the M6MH were both fine. Best Regards
