When I first got started in photography, I used an old Argus C2, and an old Rollei E that belonged to the High School newspaper. Didn't have much of a choice then, but in the intervening 35 years There have been times when my 35mm was not wide enough to get the sweep that the 19 or 21mm lens renders. On the other hand, with a 135 and 400, when I am stalking the Red Breasted Woodpecker making a home in the river birch in my front yard, I wish I had something longer... like a Questar! It seems to me that the 'normal' lens for anyone depends on what they photograph; The 90 Summicron does beautiful portraits, but it's too long for the other 90% of what I photograph. There are times when a 58 / 1.4 Macro by Leica would be ideal! I make do with the 50, however. I have been thinking about a used Leica 35-70 zoom, but I am leery of the loss of the image quality that you get with a prime lens- So, keep up the discussion!
