[Leica] Tri-X; Kodak Films

Howdy!
Myself, I've never quite gotten on too well with TMAX 400, although, I
must admit, a couple of my most favorite images were shot on it -- and
of a "people" too.  I guess I now can put words to what it is that I
never liked much:  the tonality.  Now TMX is another matter, but I still
don't get stuff that grabs me with it either.  I much prefer Delta 100
(lately done in Perceptol, don't have the #s in front of me).  This film
I love!  The 400 variety too, but this brings me Tri-X.  Each time I go
to order film, I find myself saying, "Nah, use the fancy stuff."  But
each time I wind up by scads of it in 120 and 35mm.  I simply like the
way it works.  The tones, the ... look.  Usually I do  the D76 for 10min
routine.

But you know, someone recently mentioned Agfapan 100?  Hear, hear!!
This is still probably my favorite all-around film.  The gradation in
Rodinal is awesome and just seems to fit my pix.  Unfortunately, I
sometimes curse myself for trying new tricks with it, only to see icky,
mushy grain or flatness.  It seems to me that in the US at least, Agfa
stuff runs 3rd fiddle to Kodak and even Ilford; I rarely see it outside
of the most fully-stocked shops.  That's too bad, 'cuz it really is a
unique alternative to the ubiquitous TMAX's that proliferate.  Oh yeah:
(long winded  I know)  HP5+ leaves me annoyed.  I never bother with it
anymore.
