I don't know where you get the idea it's the rarest, biggest or most expensive. It's far from it on all counts. It is big and expensive, but Leica has bigger and more expensive lenses if that's what you want. Rarer too. :-) The non-Apo 180 2.8 (second generation) is a wonderful lens. I have used it wide open with no reservation whatsoever. Stopping down one stop does improve performance somewhat, but for closeups, it's better than the 180 3.4 Apo Telyt. It's light and easy to handle. Very compact.
