Buying parts off the shelf and then assembling the parts rather than actually
making the parts does not make the assembler a manufacturer. It makes that
company an assembler.

It is likely the Ferrari team meets whatever definition the "motor racing
association" rules require for a company to qualify as a "manufacturer" with
its own parts and then buys what it is incapable of making from other
suppliers. You might post the definition your association uses for
"manufacturer" and then we could read it for ourselves to determine whether
it has any relevance to the present discussion.

Also, does Ferrari today demand better parts and closer tolerance work from
its suppliers now than it did 40 years ago or do its designers loosen up the
specs so more parts meet the quality control tests?

The question of what M-6 parts does Solms manufacture and what parts does it
buy still has not been answered.

Thank you for your input.
