The early R4's (including all those labelled R4-Mot, I think), with serial
numbers below 16xxxxx (I can't remember how many zero there are) had the
electronics built onto a wire-wrap board - these apparently fail at a very
high rate. The later models have proper printed circuit boards. It is, of
course, always a bit of a lottery buying second-hand, regardless of how
careful you are, it seems.
