Subject: [Leica] Divided Development (addendum)

I didn't say this, and perhaps it's obvious, but the reason why div dev
doesn't work so well with thin emulsion films (eg TMX, TMY, TMZ) is that
there's less gelatin for the developer to adsorb into, so when the film is
put into the second bath, there is less developer available to go to work in
the shadow areas.

There is a whole other essay to be written about why div devs give better
local contrast than regular developers, but I have had one too many glasses
of vin rouge tonight (welcoming my M4-p) to do this subject justice.

Suffice to say that edge effects are inevitably enhanced when there is no
developer available in solution, and the only developer is therefore going
to be that adsorbed at the site in question or in adjoining areas of the
neg.

Over and out.
