I'd really hesitate about making any physical contact.  With the mirror
being front-silvered, a q-tip is likely to scratch it.

What I've done in the past is just used compressed air.  Any will-nots that
remain on the mirror stay there.  They will not affect pictures, and are
only marginally annoying when looking through the viewfinder.

If I had to use a liquid, it would be distilled water, squirted on, without
any rubbing.  What doesn't come off stays there without any attempt to
remove it.  Leaving it on is better than scratching the mirror.
