Leica R4 was derived from a joint body with Moinolta's XD7 (XD11 in the
US). It is the most affordable camera when compared with other used Leica's
SLR camera like R6, R-E, or R5. Buy only with serial number higher than
1,600,000 which is inscribed on the rear edge of the base.
It was first introduced in 1980 and ceased production in 1986. Although the
R4 is old, but it is still sturdy. I just got a used one with mint
condition. Try looking for the chrome one since it is rare item with only
8,000 total production.
The camera is light in weight and smaller in size which make it so compact
to hold.
It is constructed with die-cast aluminium inner chassis and outer shell
with die-cast zinc top plate and brass base plate.
The metering system is highly sophisticated and incorporates five different
metering modes (They are M and A with selective spot measurement; A, T and
P with full-field measurement).
