Hi Chris and everyone,

At least Leica Fotografie is printed on good paper and doesn't
have 80+ percent of the area for ads like the more popular photo
magazines, which are equally, and often even more, inept.

For example, in the Feb/2000 issue of Popular Photography in
a review of a p&s camera (p.34), there's a small photo of the camera
being proped up with a roll of film; the caption reads, "Bearing up:
Film cartridge or other little doodad can be used to prop up camera for
ground-up shooting." GEE....why not a whole article about balancing
the camera on a wine glass or using a bench as a tripod? :-)

OTOH, I find Photo Technics very good, with much less ads and certainly
more aimed at people on this list. Sometimes when they show the
straight print and the final print, I like the straight print more, but
certainly not always! David Vestal's column good. It's
unfortunate that the paper quality is not very high like the Leica
Fotografie, but that's one of the reasons the Leica magazine is more
expensive.
