As everyone has stated, when you relax, it is the fastest and most reliable
manual loading camera around. New film quite commonly has a kink in the
leader right where it comes out of the canister. This kink catches on the
edge of the film gate and prevents the film from dropping into place. When
you attach the baseplate, the film gets jammed between the film gate and the
baseplate film alignment "wheel". As you load film just flop the back
briefly down to ensure that it has not caught on the film gate before
attaching the baseplate. Most of the current wide angle lenses come with
your desired hood cap. There are rumours that at Photokina this fall, an M
camera with aperture priority automation will be announced. It would,
according to the rumours, have the same shutter (horizontal rubberised
cloth) but would be electronically controlled. This may allow a flash sync
as high as 1/60. Remember that in all other cameras (except certain
underwater cameras and special sport finders), high eyepoint also means
lower magnification. Finally, the 14405 "handgrip M" also centres the tripod
socket.

Cheers

John Collier
