Yes and the one third back rule is often not the case and after all that you
have to know just how far you have to stop down and personally I do like to know
especially if I'm doing a Hand held 
Carrying around a bunch of depth of field charts does not seem doable either
than carrying around a pocket pal.
Glad you liked my bit about the chair if that was the case, Jim. I always think
"does it pass the chair test?" can you shoot a damn chair with it?" IF not what
the heck good is a camera if you can't shoot the darn chair? Do I ask for much? :)
Guess what folks: Not only do I want the front edge of the darn chair in focus.......
I ALSO WANT THE BACK!!!!
A simple depth of field scale on the outside of the barrel of a lens would be
how hard to do? Cost how much? To leave it off is almost a slap on the wrist! 
SCREAMS POINT AND SHOOT!!!! WHO CARES!
