This needle has been threaded before, either here or on the idcc list.
My understanding is that the two Marchioni widows each sold the rights:
one to LeitzUSA, the other to the fellow who owned Star-D. Current
vendor of the product is Taiwanese, I believe.

I have a Star-D 'Professional' and, except for black hard-plastic grips
on the two handles, seems like the real thing, complete with brass
inserts in the leg collets. There were apparently cheaper versions as
well.
