Harrison & Ted:
A 50 by any other name....
The easiest and most useful lens to make.
1. Doesn't cost thousands, The 50 Summicron is the cheapest hunk of glass in the lineup.
2. When they want to come out with a special purpose optic, 9 out of 10 it's
going to be done on a 50!
Super high speed lens? put it on a 50!
Super compact lens? make that a 50 as well.
Blitz lens? a 50.
Macro? one more 50.
The idea of owning multiple 50's is not a big splurge. It could make some sense
in the end. A lot of different tools with the same focal length! (or similar)
...for a lot of different jobs.
