If it takes (some of the very best working pros) an average of 600 rolls of
film to produce a National Geographic article that should provide some
perspective of how difficult it can be to produce good work. But IMHO when
I start working a subject hard to really suck the essence of it out then I
will go through sometimes 3 rolls of film. . .or more trying to capture the
magic. If I get one keeper per roll, I feel I'm getting my money's worth.
But I edit tight, don't do postcards for Aunt Delores, shoot E6 and in most
cases don't even have it mounted. . .I cut out the frame (frames) that stand
out, mount it, and can the rest. On occasion I will have one printed. If I
know the client is going to want prints I use 2-3 bodies and put C-41 in
one.
