Hi Nathan:

I guess there's some difference then between the two different negative
holders. I can get enough of the frame included to my satisfaction but I
have to "jiggle" the negative a lot whilst viewing very closely over the
light box. Then, after spending too much time doing that, the holder,
like yours jams frequently. I don't scan that many negatives anymore but
when I do find that I have a lot less frustration if I temporarily mount
them in a Polaroid slide mount for a quick scan.

Mostly I shoot Ektachrome and Provia these days when using 35mm.
