Are you mixing your own C-41 chemistry or are you using someone's kits?  I
found that my C-41 results got a bit more snap once I begin mixing up my
own stuff.   And if you're not careful about temperature, this can affect
your results, as well -- I've found that most C-41 work ought to be within
a degree or so, though the precisionists will scream on at length about the
need for 1/4 degree (Fahrenheit in both cases, about 1/4 degree C.)

You get the results consistent with the amount of effort you put into the
dark room.  I have, sadly, learned that sloppy work leads to unacceptable
results ...
